IRAQI WOMEN’S FRIENDSHIP PROJECT

After reading about the sewing machine project that WAFDI sponsors in Al-Wafaa
camp in Baghdad for displaced people we (two American friends, Linda Higdon and
Basma Fakri) put our heads together to figure out how we could connect with them
(women to women) to let them know we care.  There are 30 widows and their families in
the camp. They lost their homes, husbands and sons these past years – but have not
lost their resilience and heart.

Here’s what’s important. Since June, we have been emailing our new friends in the
CAMP. What we did not know is that something so simple would open up something so
completely thrilling for them, for us, and we hope for you!

Join us! Here’s how:

1.
Send your own email greetings and photos to the women. Our friend in
Baghdad who works with the women in the CAMP will hand carry your message directly
to them, translate it, and then send you a message back from them (along with their
photos). You will discover that they are as eager to know you as you are to know them
– and are just as uncertain about each step. We are happy to help you get jump
started. Write to us at
Linda.higdon@yahoo.com or basma.fakri@gmail.com.

2.
Buy Season’s Greetings Cards designed by the women. All profits go directly to
their sewing machine project through WAFDI. Winter is coming fast and they are eager
to sew warm clothes for themselves and their families.

card is $1.50 plus handling)

3.
Donate to their sewing machine project sponsored by WAFDI. Any amount is the
right amount. Consider reevaluating your gift giving this holiday season and redirecting
some of your giving in the form of a donation. Click the

Our times are complex and women’s wisdom and ability to create new road maps to
one another are needed more now than ever. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
