About WAFDI
About WAFDI:

In February 2003, a group of concerned Iraqi women who hailed from different parts of
Iraq met to establish Women for a Free Iraq (WFFI). This group of women played a
significant role in speaking out about the suffering of the Iraqi people under the
Saddam Hussein regime, and the atrocities committed during his rule.

On April 21-22, 2003, 19 members of Women for a Free Iraq attended a meeting for
"Winning the Peace: Women's Role in the Post-Conflict Iraq, that took place in
Washington D.C. Basma Fakri and Raz Rasool asked these women to form WAFDI
and commit to the empowerment and advancement of women in a free and democratic
post-Saddam Iraq.

The founding members of WAFDI are
Basma Fakri, Tanya Gilley, Zakia Hakki, Pauline
Jasim, Tamara Quinn, Raz Rasool and Neeran Saraf. They established the agenda
and rules under which WAFDI operates. Off of this founding group the first Board of
Directors for WAFDI was elected.

Today, WAFDI's all volunteer network includes some 168 women and men. Each works
diligently in their own capacity to promote Iraqi women's rights and are involved in the
ongoing journey to a better and safe Iraq for all Iraqis.

The Board of Directors is a group of women activists who are working to build the
organizational capacity of WAFDI as well as promoting its mission, goals and
objectives.

Currently WAFDI does not have any paid staff or any overhead expenses. All
membership fees, donations and small grants go directly to fund our projects in Iraq.

WAFDI is a non-profit tax exempt organization under IRS code 501c3. All donations
and contribution made to WAFDI are tax-deductible in the US.
